The game uses a 5x5 grid with cluster pays mechanics. Winning clusters break one crust layer per cell, with normal cells holding three layers and basalt cells holding four. Cascading wins trigger as clusters break, with adjacent symbols burst as part of the mechanic.
Lava Blister wilds substitute for regular symbols and burst a 3x3 area when they land. Firestones are buried under the crust in five grade tiers. Ember Moths multiply firestones by between x2 and x20, with multiple moths stacking additively above x1.
Signals are scatter symbols that unlock free spins modes. Three Signals trigger First Spark mode, four Signals trigger Break The Crust mode, and five Signals trigger Meltdown mode.
In First Spark mode, the board is partly washed with lava and prizes are paid before the board resets.
Break The Crust mode fills a heat gauge as crust breaks. The gauge has four milestones: Warm, HOT, MOLTEN and Erupting. Each milestone reached grants extra spins and removes the lowest Firestone grade from play.
Meltdown mode starts automatically beyond the Warm tier. It removes Cinder Firestones from the first spin and adds two Lava Blisters to each round.
